The Multi-Cervical Unit

The Melbourne Whiplash Centre was the first Centre in Australia to use the advanced, computerised, objective technology from Hanoun Medical for defining and treating chronic neck pain.

The Multi-Cervical Unit depicted here, allows for neck measurements of both range of motion and strength.

"This technology finally allows us to define where weakness occurs in a patient's neck - it also allows us to strengthen the neck where weakness has been defined".

Robert De Nardis, Physiotherapist and Director of the Melbourne Whiplash Centre has designed a specific protocol (The Melbourne Protocol) which is gaining International recognition and is being used in over 50 specialist whiplash facilities around the world.

The outcome results of the Melbourne Protocol are being analysed by researchers at La Trobe University (Melbourne, Australia). Research to date indicates that:

  • The average patient attending our facility is 40 years old and has had symptoms for more than 8 years;
  • Over 70% of our patients improve by at least 60% due to the program;
  • Average length of treatment is 7 weeks;
  • Results indicate treatment gains are maintained at 6 month follow up and beyond.
